About Me
I am Diane and the most important thing I need to share with you is that my reasons for being a counsellor is to help people who may be struggling with life and all its complications. Feeling alone with our thoughts and feelings can be very difficult, and sometimes we just need help. I can offer a safe, non-judgmental space in which to explore those feelings, I will try to understand life from your perspective, and we can work together to arrive at a better place for you.
I am trained as an Integrative Counsellor, which means I can offer a range of different therapeutic approaches depending on your individual needs and preferred way of working. What I can promise, is whatever way we decide to work I will give you 100%.
I have more than 12 years’ experience working with both adults and young people, with a wide range of issues, including bereavement, anxiety, relationships, anger, stress, trauma, obsessions, intrusive thoughts, self-harm and low self-esteem. If I were to detail every issue I have worked with I can assure you the list would be endless, so please do not worry if what you need to work through is not mentioned, human beings are very complex but wonderful individuals.
I offer online or telephone counselling, which means you can access your counselling from a place convenient to you, at a time to suit you. All I ask is that you are comfortable and in a safe, confidential space to be free to talk about what may be difficult and upsetting feelings.
As a professional, my job is to work with you, to listen and understand. The expert on you is you, my role is to facilitate clarity, growth, and self-awareness, so you can change things for the better. I believe in empowering people to feel more in control of their own destiny.
I have a Level 7 NCPS Accredited Advanced Diploma in Counselling Supervision, which means I have trained to a high standard, with in depth knowledge of ethical and legal requirements to practice, complexities that may arise through the supervision process, and the responsibilities I hold as a supervisor to my supervisee, their clients and the organisations in which they may work.
I believe that effective supervision is based on establishing a good supervisory relationship. For me this means working collaboratively, with respect for each other, agreeing the aims of supervision and being honest and open about the work involved. I want my supervisees to feel they are heard, understood, and get what they need from every session. This is why I spend a considerable amount of time discussing the supervisory contract, to establish how to work together, and the expectations on both.
My values in supervision are to ensure my supervisee has opportunities for learning and developing, that they feel empowered and believe that I am fully supportive of them as a professional, I want my supervisees to feel able to discuss strengths and weaknesses with me, without judgement or fear, I want them to feel comfortable to seek guidance when needed. I consider the developmental stage of my supervisees and will adapt how we work depending on counselling experience.
